Session TopicBeing Green—Fighting Global Warming

Interesting points:

1.     Results of survey at FuLong train station on Sep.08, 2012, from about 10 group of visitors whom we interviewed with the question: How do you feel about restaurants in Fulong offering clean re-used plastic bags for take-out lunch boxes?
      There were 2 main answers:

(1) plastic bag not needed for lunch box (2) refused 2nd hand plastic bags--said this would be unhygienic.

Lynn’s thoughts after observing the Fulong lunchbox shop and its customers on Sept 8, 2012:
Fulong lunchboxes are special in that they aren't so oily. The box stays clean, so the plastic bags people get also stay clean.  Therefore, she feels they could be reused. But she understands Taiwanese people’s initial reaction that plastic bags given out with lunchboxes couldn’t be re-used. She had the same feeling the first time she ate a Fulong lunchbox too! But then she discovered the plastic bag actually stayed very clean...

Christine’s thoughts:  As Fulong is a tourist spot, tourists take lunchboxes out, leave the shop, and then don't return to the shop.  Perhaps some people reuse the plastic bag by themselves, maybe treat it as garbage bag during their tour.

Hal’s thoughts: Maybe we can suggest the shops prepare alternative material bags instead of plastic bags, which are more environmentally friendly.

2.     How to promote the idea of reducing plastic bags in Fulong?
Hal will draft a letter for suggestion to related Dept. of Government, eg 台灣好行

3.     Tips for Fighting Global Warming: Oct.5 Lynn went  to a jr. high school to do a Fight Global Warming: Go Green! lesson. We shared tips about saving energy in daily life that Lynn could suggest to the students.
