Thanks, Caroline! Well done for digging up this article--I wonder how you found it? I've just read it in my spacious youth hostel room in 厦门which fortunately has a computer with free internet access. Reading this American woman's description of Taipei almost makes me want to write my own--I'd focus on the MRT and bus system and Taiwanese people's energy rather than the small shops and department stores...but then I'm lucky enough to LIVE in Taipei rather than just be a tourist! :) Lynn
